KARTING CODE OF CONDUCT FLAGS FEES GEAR/LAP TIMES RULES & REGULATIONS GETTING STARTED For anyone wanting to get involved in Go Karting the best way to go about it is to come to one of our club days and have a look. There are plenty of members who will tell you anything you need to know about the sport such as how to become a member and what costs are involved with the sport. The best thing you can do before you start racing is to do a bit of research and find out which Class will suit you and therefore what type of kart & motor you will need.
More detailed information and specifications on karting can also be obtained in the 2011 AKA Manual
Many people have been caught over the years buying what they think is a cheap kart only to find out they have to spend more money as the Kart is not legal to race in the class. The rules constantly change in Go Karting and a Kart that has not been raced for a couple of seasons will most likely not be eligible to compete. An example of this is the Clubman class, in 2006 changes in the class saw it switched to a control muffler making any Kart without the new muffler ineligible to compete.
When buying a Kart look at the condition and age of the Kart, ask when the motor was last rebuilt look for cracks or any signs of wear as what might look like a good buy could end costing you a lot more money down the track. Keep your eyes on our Classifieds section as there are always Karts coming up for sale within the club with members updating gear or changing classes.
Once you have become a member the first three meetings that you will compete in you will have a Provisional C Grade Licence where you will have to start at the rear of the field for all heats, senior drivers will also have to do a meeting where they will have to perform flag marshal duties before obtaining a full C Grade Licence. Starting from the rear of the field for your first three meetings allows you build up your confidence without the pressure of starting up the front with all the experienced drivers behind you.
